History of Sherman M4: The American Giant

The M4 Sherman became the main tank of the US Army during World War II, with over 49,000 units produced.

Initially developed in response to the urgent need for a reliable medium tank, the Sherman Tank It proved to be the decisive weapon in multiple theaters of operations. Its official name was Medium Tank M4, but it was popularly known as the Sherman in honor of General William Tecumseh Sherman.
