  • The Pacific was the front of World War II where carrier-based aircraft, both Japanese and American, played the most significant role. From Pearl Harbor to the end of the war, the battles involving Japanese and American aircraft were a major focus of the conflict. U.S. Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy were constants. In late December 1940, the U.S. The Navy ordered that all carrier-based aircraft be painted entirely in Light Gray.
  • Subsequently, in August 1941, it was decided that the upper surfaces of aircraft belonging to the Pacific Fleet Battle Force would be painted blue-gray, while the undersides would retain their previous light gray color. In the following months, orders were gradually issued for more aircraft to be painted in this scheme. By February 1942, a clear order had been issued that all aircraft of the U.S. Navy aircraft, both carrier-based and those based on land, were to be painted in the Blue-Gray and Light Gray scheme. This initial camouflage scheme remained in place until January 1943, when a new tricolor camouflage scheme was introduced for carrier-based aircraft, consisting of Sea Blue and Intermediate Blue for the upper surfaces, and Insignia White for the undersides.
  • With this Solution Book you can paint any airplane from the U.S. Navy models with early World War II camouflage, for example, iconic aircraft such as the F4U Corsair, F4F Wildcat, TBD-1 Devastator, TBF/TBM Avenger, and SBD Dauntless, among others. Most of the techniques described are optional, and it's up to you to decide whether or not to apply them. If you want to improve your painting and weathering techniques, we recommend that you try applying them all. You can recreate any level of wear on your models by varying the intensity of each effect. The model used in this book is the 1/48 scale Douglas TBD-1 Devastator from GWH. Now choose your favorite model and let yourself be guided step by step by an expert modeler!
