- Camouflage was a key feature that distinguished German vehicles from Allied vehicles during World War II, aside, of course, from their manufacturing, construction, and combat characteristics. The tanks and armored vehicles of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS adopted extremely innovative and varied camouflage patterns, particularly in the middle and final stages of the conflict. These interesting and unusual camouflage schemes are one of the main reasons for the continued interest these vehicles hold among military modelers. Some of the most popular are the characteristic two- and three-color patterns, with countless combinations of shapes and color proportions, providing an inexhaustible source of inspiration for future modeling projects.
- The base color used to paint German vehicles from 1943 onwards was Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 Dark Yellow. This color had several variations. A variety of green and brown spot and stripe patterns were applied over this base. The first was RAL 6003 – Olive Green, and the second was Chocolate Brown – RAL 8017. With these three colors, you can paint almost any of the camouflage schemes applied to German equipment during the mid-war period.
