- Here is the third volume in Mr Black Publications' practical guide series. This book marks our entry into the world of small-scale military model kits, 1/72 and 1/76 scale, drawing on the expertise of the master in this field, Alex Clark. Most of us started in this hobby with 1/76 and 1/72 scale models and figures, but later moved on to 1/35 and 1/32 scales for military subjects and figures, or 1/48 for aircraft. When the company was founded in 2011, we promised that our publications would cover all categories and themes of model kits. However, after 13 years in the market, we hadn't had the opportunity to delve into smaller scales until now, with the help of the master of 1/72 scale models, Alex Clark. Of course, we will soon be introducing many more topics in different categories and scales, including 1/76 scale models, 1/72 scale quick builds, and more. Furthermore, future issues will include military vignettes and dioramas.
- Alex Clark undertook an extensive conversion to achieve an accurate 1/72 scale representation of an Iraqi Type 69-II tank. He used the AMMO Mig Jimenez mid-production T-54B kit as a base. A.MIG-8502. We decided to present all the components in detail, or at least most of them, since many are discontinued. Here we present the model kits, photo-etched parts, brass fittings, resin tracks, decals, paints, weathering materials, reference books, and more. Alex explains in detail the conversion and upgrade using parts he made himself, as well as commercially available parts. We have 57 photos out of a total of 73 that show not only the impressive assembly work, but also the painting and weathering process of the vehicle. The photos are reproduced in the largest possible format so that everything can be appreciated in detail.
- As a supplement, a detailed tour of a Type 69-II command tank preserved at the Bovington Tank Museum in the UK is included, with 27 close-up photos. The photos are published with the permission of the owner, Scott Dimmick, to whom we are extremely grateful. The captions were written by Alex Clark.
- The book continues with a detailed presentation of the materials used by Alex Clark and his relevant model kits, including photo-etched parts, brass accessories, resin tracks, paints, weathering materials, and more. This 36-plus page section was produced by the team at Mr Black Publications and Stelios Demiras. It's like a mini-encyclopedia of what's available on the market. Here you'll find around 120 photos that show in detail the contents of the kits, photo-etched parts, resin tracks and components, plastic accessories, paints, weathering materials, decal sets, instruction guides, and numerous profiles for building unique models of the T-54/T-55/T-59/T-69 and all their variants.
- When we deem it necessary, we add extensive historical information, such as a list of conflicts in which these vehicles participated, both in their original factory state and with the conversions, improvements, and modifications carried out by each user. In total, we have around 200 photographs!
- A huge thank you to Alex Clark, a great artist who gave us the opportunity to publish such a unique book.
- We would also like to give special thanks, in no particular order, to Alex Vallejo and Jaume Ortiz Forns (Vallejo Acrylics), Johan Lexell (Star Decals), Georgi Grigorov (OKB Grigorov), Federico Collada (FC Model Trend) and Yannis Papadopoulos (ETA Diorama Accessories), and last but not least, to Ken Jones, our English text editor.
